Announcements for October 2008

Please know that all are welcome at St. John’s. We invite you to worship with us, to join us as we learn and love and serve our Lord.

On Sunday, October 5th, bring your animals to church! We will be worshiping outside for the 10:00 service; worship will include the blessing of our pets. All are welcome. Please bring pet food or treats; these will go to HIV and AIDS patients.

Bible Study meets on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. We are beginning a study of the prophet Isaiah, looking at the role of the prophet in Israel and in our day, at some of the different kinds of prophecy found in Isaiah, and specifically at the prophecies we read during Advent.

The Italians are coming! Our annual fall parish dinner is on Saturday, October 11, 6:00 drinks and hors d’oeuvres, 7:00 dinner. The funds raised will go to local animal shelters. $15 per person, $40 per family.

The Second Friday this month is October 10th, when we share dinner with our friends at the Manor. This month’s dinner is an Oktoberfest: bratwurst and all the things that go with it.

Daughters of the King meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 for prayer and fellowship. This month’s meeting is on Tuesday, October 14th.

Rally Day! Girls Friendly Society Rally Day - East Meets West - is Saturday, October 4, 9:30 - 1:00. All girls are welcome. Please bring lunch and an offering for the GFS World Project in Korea.

GFS meets this month on Mondays October 13 and 27 at 3:30. Sons of St. John are going camping October 18–19.

It’s time to sign up for our annual Advent/Christmas book. You can write about the lessons of the day, or a family custom or recipe or picture. Sign up in the Guild Room. Entries are due by November 16th.

Work Day! Come join the fun. We will clean and repair and tidy on Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 to noon. Come for whatever part of the day you can, and do what you can.

It’s a Wrap! Our annual Operation Shoe Box is scheduled for Sunday, December 7th following the 10:00 service. Please bring in your shoe boxes and small gifts for children infants through teens.

The Sons of St. John will be setting up our Adopt-A-Family Chart on November 16th. Watch for it in the Guild Room.

We will celebrate All Saints’ Day on Sunday, November 2. You are invited to list the names of your loved ones in the Guild Room; they will be remembered in our prayers. This is also the day to bring in your United Thank Offering box or envelope.

Do you have clothes you no longer need? Clothes for men, women, and children are needed for those in shelters. Imagine what it means to a homeless person to be able to go into a “boutique” and select clothes to wear. Please include your name and address if you would like a receipt for tax purposes.

The food for October is cereal. Thanks for remembering those who do not have enough to eat. Your donations go to BCIS.

Socks! one of the most needed items for people on the street, and for the children who come to Orangewood. New or gently used socks for men, women, and children are much appreciated.
